The beach huts at whitstable and Tankerton slopes is a good place to start, especially at low tide as the reflection off the mud or water gives excellent light.

Just outside chatham there is Riverside country park for some coastal shots, or Chatham historic dockyard. Rochester high street has some interesting building, again not far from Chatham.

You might want to look at some of the lowepro bags, I've had two for a number of years for my cameras and cannot fault the build quality. Take a look at the lowepro website and it gives you an indication of what each one can hold based on exact camera models and lenses etc.
