    black ice??? first try

I do alot of jewellery photography with this technique and when you get it spot on it does result in a very slick looking image. I started out using acrylic but it was a nightmare with all the dust and it scratches really easily so then I started using black glass as used on coffee tables etc...

A4 sheets of black acrylic are cheap to buy off of Ebay but scratch very very easily. Try to get a cheap black glass coffee table from Argos or somewhere, you'll get two sheets of glass that will be much more resistant to scratches and in the long run will work out much cheaper.

You can try moving the softbox to camera right a bit more to avoid it reflecting in the perspex. Also, not sure if you are using one already but try a polarising filter, this way you can adjust how much reflection you get. As the shots are for a website and presumably will be fairly small you...

Lighting and backgrounds for jewelery photography

A couple of a3 pieces of acrylic from Ebay would be cheaper and using a polariser will control the amount of reflection that you may want. As Garry has said black and white are the most useful and will let the colours of the jewellery speak for themselves plus you don't need to spend time...

    Photographing paintings.

Camera settings will depend on the light available to you, but as a general rule you want to aim for an aperture at about f8 which tends to give you the sharpest results, but it does depend on your lens. Yeah, just give it a go and see what the results are, then you'll see what further items you...

With regards to the camera, it doesn't make any difference what make as long as it has a large enough image size to print the size that is needed. The image can of course be resized to a degree but it's best to start with the largest image size you can. You'll want a lens with very low...

    Calibration problems

As posted earlier, 200cd/m2 is way too bright, with a monitor that bright you'll probably be compensating for that by making your image darker so it looks correct, therefore your prints coming out too dark.Try calibrating to around 120 which is recommended when I use an i1 display, that setting...

A couple of options, not coastal but well worth visiting are, the Luxulyan Valley and for amazing desolate lunar type landscapes try some of the accessible old clay pits.

Product shooters - Do you use jewellery clay?

I use Prop Wax, kinda clearish and very sticky. It does leave a waxy mark but is easily cleaned off, ideal for propping jewellery on acrylic type surfaces.
