How about something like the Kingston Mobilelite? Transfer from SD to USB and built in battery backup for a mobile device. Can also be used to view / transfer images on a mobile device.
Then get some hi how capacity USB 3.0 flash drives which will be cheaper than equivalent SD cards.
The Sigma 10-20 3.5 is designed for APS-C sensors although it will physically fit full frame bodies (it'll vignette at the wide end). Not sure about rear protrusion though.
