I wouldn't normally have a pop at Ken Rockwell...

I use lots and lots of old lenses on my E-P2, with highly varying results. Some are magical and give images with characteristics I just don't see with modern lenses. Some just don't work very well at all. For me, they add fun and interest to the hobby and keep old equipment alive (which is also...

    Yes

    Body meets Lens...Superb

I have an FG and an FG20. Beautiful little cameras - probably my favourites among my film cameras and very nice to use. The FG20 lacks the program mode (but keeps the aperture priority and manual modes) but is otherwise pretty much the same.

Yes, I can relate... There are so many wonderful film cameras and lenses out there, at such ridiculous prices...

What Domain Name would you use for a profolio?

What a coincidence - my cousin Fiona Ulrich had the same issue.

    In focus

With the lens that close, depth of field will be small. You have a tripod and a non-moving subject so don't need to worry really about shutter speed. Use one of your smallest apertures - f16 or f22. Also try focusing about one - third into the subject to help maximise depth of field.

any recommendations for a camera suitable for a 6yr old?

One of my kids is very rough on toys, clothes and so on. Very busy, careless, clumsy. Her first camera - a Kodak compact digital - given to her at age 6, was dropped very quickly and the lens no longer extended. The replacement - a Canon Powershot A series - is still going strong after thousands...

any recommendations for a camera suitable for a 6yr old?

Potentially any compact. I would suggest something with image stabilisation or shake reduction as the young ones can be a bit erratic. Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy seeing the world from her perspective.

    Portrait Lens

But maybe a tad long on an APS-C???

Compact Flash cards, why so expensive?

When I started using digital cards were basically $1 (Australian) per megabyte. A 256 megabyte card cost around $250. The highest capacity was 512 megabyte for about $500 and when 1gigabyte cards hit the market, they were about a thousand dollars. So, given that 16 gig cards are closer to $16...

Friend of a friend just got a job as a camera expert

You have been very quick to criticise other people's work, so it is only natural they would want to know about yours. You have framed some points around your work that appear to others to be inconsistent.

    Ebay Lenses

What are you meaning by old? Are you talking about vintage manual focus lenses or lenses that are just a few years old? I have plenty of vintage lenses bought from Ebay for use on my Nikon DSLR and an Olympus micro 4/3). I have never paid much (usually the Australian dollar equivalent of around...

    EV where and when?

Another good example is backlighting. If you are photographing someone with the sun or other bright light behind them and meter for the whole scene, the gave will be underexposed. So, either use manual or exposure compensation to increase the exposure, fill flash to light the face or spot...
