Thanks guys, that's really helpful ;) Had a good look at samples from the 50mm 1.8 and it looks a great lens to work with. There is about a £100 difference between the 1.4 and 1.8 so i'm inclined to spend the extra and get the 1.4 although I'm still slightly aprehensive of getting my first prime!
