Not sure about the Fun, but the essential difference between the Pen and Touch functions is Touch allows it to be used with your fingers as a mouse-replacing trackpad, just like on a laptop. They don't half make it difficult to work these things out though :bang:

I've just read one listing which states the models likely to be affected, as you say mine should be fine. Will get an adapter and report back :thumbs:

Just realised I've got this old Pentax lens lying in a drawer. Proper lens, heavy and smooth to operate, not like my toytown nifty fifty. It's fairly well regarded I believe. Just for giggles would it be worth getting a K-mount -> Canon adapter and trying it out on my 500D, or is it unlikely...

I had my heart set on the D5000 too but after trying it against the Canon in numerous shops I realised the 500D was nicer in the hand for me, so I went with that.

Had a quick play tonight (all indoor low light, no flash, hand-held) and I have to say as long as the subject isn't moving the results can be very nice with some post processing. The ketchup bottle was shot in RAW at 1/80 f1.8 ISO 800. It was underexposed but I corrected that after, and the pic...

Thanks for all the observations folks. Clearly I have much to work on but it seems like it's a question of appreciating the limitations and working around or with them. And practicing a lot. I haven't really been pushing the ISO and increasing the shutter speeds as suggested so I'll take those...

OK yes I see, good points. Snapping horses wasn't the reason for getting the 50mm, but I'll give it a try with those caveats in mind.

Oh and I'm thinking the 50mm F1.8 I'm hopefully acquiring soon will be a big help with respect to light, although not reach obviously. This will allow some usefully faster shutter speeds, yes?

Well according to reviews high ISO performance is not the 500D's forte but I'll certainly experiment and see how it looks. Thanks again everyone.
