The old 'Silverstone isn't very good from spectator side' ruse: still true?

I mean from the circuit's perspective; I have insurance for when something happens with me ;)

The old 'Silverstone isn't very good from spectator side' ruse: still true?

If a spectator who has signed no waiver and is uninsured is poking their lens through fence with nothing between it and car, that's dangerous full stop.

F1 Night Photography - Grand PRix

Lit up or not lit up, you'll still need to run the ISO pretty high. Even in the pits at Le Mans, you have to push to ISO 1600 which, unless you have something very shiny and with a long series of zeroes on the price tag, is going to give you pretty sandy looking noise; a serious problem...

The old 'Silverstone isn't very good from spectator side' ruse: still true?

Should've seen Adam's face when he saw me lying down by the barriers...

The old 'Silverstone isn't very good from spectator side' ruse: still true?

On topic, I agree in principal about the Arena but I saw am togs (who, remember, have signed no waiver) in photo holes and leaning on the wall that separates them from the cars. It's one of the big no nos as an accredited photographer and it's downright dangerous; there's too little protection...

The old 'Silverstone isn't very good from spectator side' ruse: still true?

That seems a bit crazy, as I was making a point and stated very clearly they were not my photos. Had I done a thread using only my own photos that might be a little bit arrogant...

And if you can't be arsed to walk, then how about shooting through stuff? I'm resorting to a couple of my own photos here but only because it's far easier than trawling through TP threads. Abbey Grandstands Becketts A valiant effort from DJ Choc Ice (Ste Hodges)...

The old 'Silverstone isn't very good from spectator side' ruse: still true?

PLEASE NOTE: I have used other people's images to help make my point, and have credited them appropriately. If this is illegal, mods, let me know or take this down. Thanks. I've noticed people are starting to warm towards the new layout at Silverstone, and some people have gone as far as...

    Monopod, Tripod or freehand

Handheld. The only reason you need a monopod is to steady the weight of a heavy lens (300 2.8 or larger probably). The only reason you need a monopod is for long exposure static stuff, not for motorsport action shots!

Good luck. Much respect for coming on here rather than hiding away and struggling.

Oulton park 14th May, where did it all go wrong ?

Jesus, everyone gets so angry on forums. Siftah, I totally agree with Gary. I know a lot of very, very good photographers who have never been trackside and, to put it blunty (and Ned, I think you'd agree) there has, in some ways at least, been an opportunity wasted here. I'm not being harsh...

Oulton park 14th May, where did it all go wrong ?

It's a possibility, but in fairness going trackside is a responsibility. I started a massive thread when I got my first pass to get some dos and don'ts (and have had a couple about me since... ). How long had you been shooting before you went trackside, mate? Is this just a one...
