Having worked in a photolab, I can say you will never get anywhere near the quality of lab prints from a home printer. Here's a couple of things you might not have known about prints made in a lab: (The Fuji ones anyway)

The 70-300 IS does actually have L glass in it (one ** element). It's incredibly sharp, even wide open. I'd definitely recommend it if you want the IS, but the 70-200/4 in famous for being an extremely good lens.
The Canon 70-300 IS is better quality and has image stabilisation. This makes it far superior than the Sigma IMO and is a cracking lens :)
The focusing on the Sigma is also slow and loud, which annoys me greatly :bang:
I've used it once on my 40D where without it the shot would have been impossible.

If you choose to import from a disk instead of a device when you stick your memory card in, you can ask lightroom to move them (delete them off the memory card when done) and generate folders for the images to be stored in.
