How much of a problem is size? If you can carry around an SLR, get something like the EOS 500D. I think you would always wonder how much better an SLR would be if you went with the 4/3 cameras!

Guys I'm sure some of you will have some pointers. I often find I want to take some pictures inside when I have spare time, which is often night time. I was taking some pictures of the cat last night trying to get tack sharp photos. None of my lenses seem to be able to get the AF right...

What do you need most - a wide aperture for DoF / low light or would you like a slightly longer walk around lens?

50mm F1.8 is great for experimenting with nice big apertures but IME on a crop sensor camera like my 450D and your 500D is just too long to be practical for anything apart from portraits.

If he needs higher ISO then I agree with the post above - he needs some faster lenses to get more light into the camera.
