The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Many landscape photographers, including me, prefer zooms over primes. Zooming with your feet often isn't possible when framing a landscape. Obviously primes can be, and are, used but changing lenses to get different focal lengths in the field is no fun. My main zooms for landscapes are the...

    South-East England Osea Island

I find that the tide times for Sheerness correspond pretty well to the tide times for the Goldhanger/Osea area (better than the more logical Bradwell or Maldon). I have photographed the beach huts and prefer a high tide in the morning as the sun is in the east, (pretty much coming down the river...

Shutter count on mirrorless bodies why ?

Many people make greater use of the mechanical shutter either as a default or when they need to avoid rolling shutter issues. So shutter count is still relevant but I agree, wear and tear on the rest of the camera is probably more important. When buying used, you are probably looking at a camera...

Fujifilm settings help - what have I changed?

I don't think that there is a setting that affects the EXIF data. As far as I know, the EXIF data contains both the actual focal length and the 35mm equivalent. I've not looked at the EXIF data but Lightroom shows both numbers.

The X-T3 is a good choice but just for reference, the X-H1 is not a PASM camera. I has the roughly the same control philosophy as the X-T3. For PASM you need the X-S10, X-H2 or X-H2s.

    X70 or g5 ii

Although I'm generally a Fujifilm fan and have sold all my Canon gear in favour of the Fujifilm system, I'd have to say that my preference would be the Canon (I have owned both). The X70 has a fixed lens of 28mm. The G5X has a 24-120 zoom. The G5X has a stacked sensor, the X70 doesn't. The G5X...

Selling a Camera With Battery included - Advice Please

In the past I've sent stuff with batteries via Royal Mail and their policy seems to be that if the battery is part of the equipment in the package (i.e. a battery installed in a camera) then it's okay. Most couriers will have an exclusion list on their website (including Royal Mail) that should...

The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

The pros and cons of the X-T4 are well documented. I prefer to use the X-H1 as I prefer the ergonomics with it’s deep grip and the tilting screen (but not the Q button placement). But the X-T4’s AF is quicker and more effective so the keeper rate is higher. The X-T4 is a few years newer, and it...

Need a new mower , petrol or battery?

For your lawn size, I recommend going for a battery mower. I’ve had a Bosch battery mower for about 5 years now and I wouldn’t go back to a petrol mower. Battery mowers are quieter, probably cheaper, more reliable, don’t need servicing and you don’t have to go to the petrol station for fuel. My...

No, I’ll wait until it hits the streets. Early reviews look promising but reviews of the finished article will tell if Fuji have genuinely developed the AF to be useful and the bugs reported on the pre-production cameras have been ironed out. I’m interested in the X-H2S for birds in flight and...

Capture 1 Express (the free version) does not have all the tools of the Pro version. It’s worth trying it to see if it suits you as it’s free. The other main contenders are the Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop suite but that means you have to sign up to a subscription (approx £10 per month) so it’s...

Simple Way to Crop to a Focal Length in Editing

The simplest method that I can think of is to use the relative field of view angles. The horizontal FOV for 35mm is 54.4 degrees and the 90mm is 22.6 so there needs to be 0.415 times the number of horizontal pixels to simulate a 90mm lens. The vertical FOV for 35mm is 37.8 degrees and the 90mm...

Need help choosing system. Sony vs Fuji £5K Budget

For me, it’s all about the user experience, which is why I ended up with the Fuji system. I was originally a Canon user but when it came time to change/upgrade I evaluated the other brands including Sony and Fuji. The Sony’s are wonderful cameras and their AF system is undeniably better than...

    Fuji X-T3 vs X-T2

The X-T2 and X-H1 are roughly equal in terms of autofocus. The X-T3 with the latest firmware is supposed to equal the X-T4. If your ‘nature photography’ includes wildlife then I suggest that AF performance is paramount so you should go with the X-T3. If hand-held video is important to you, you...
