Cheers, was a good trip if lacking in the action/wind front. So unlike the usual Orkney! The board snake was made on one of those windless afternoons. Took a while to edit the vid together and it wasn't helped with some computer difficulties (basically not really up to the job). Was a good...
Had a week away with some mates kitesurfing in Orkney last year. Only just got round to finishing a wee video edit of the trip. Unfortunately the wind gods didn't play ball so not much in the way of action but thought it was still worthwhile putting something together for us to remember the trip...
Took the plunge on a 5011 (got it cheap thorugh the Tesco clubcard voucher deal at jessops). As you say the 5001 is definately better built and more solid. Works ok with my 550d and tamron 17-50 for stills. Will hopefully be doing a bit of video with it in the next week and will be able to do a...
Posted this on another thread but relevant here as well :)
Currently looking at getting the velbon ultra rexi L (1.3kg) with a giottos 5011 3way fluid head (0.45kg). Should hopefully be usable for everyday as well as being light and compact enough to carry around / travel (using with a 550d)...

Looking to get a 3 way fluid head and planning to use it with a Velbon Ultra Rexi L http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-velbon-ultra-rexi-l-tripod/p1525702 for a compact light weight set up that could also be used as an every day set as well. Will be using it with a 550D and 18-55 /55-200...
Just noticed the grantown woods video quality was downgraded by vimeo when i uploaded it. (due to uploading the learnie vid in HD in the same week) HD version now uploaded in its place. Sorry about that.
Thanks for the comments. Will keep them in mind for the next vids. It was a snow flake on the lens in a couple of shots, weather was a bit hit and miss. Fortunately was using a waterproof compact. Found it easier using a second camera to gain various angles/shots (as used Grantown Woods vid)...
Been having a little play with some video on the compact camera and made the videos below. There are a few things I'd tweak or change when doing it again as it's been a steep learning curve. Hope you enjoy.

Been out with the 17-50 tamron 2.8 again and find the focus hunting alot in low light. Generally using apeture priority and have been uping the iso but still finding it hunting alot and not finding focus. can switch to manual focus but had hoped this would be a good low light lens...any tips...
Just flown easyjet glasgow to berlin. asked at check in desk and was told no problem for tripod in hand luggage as long as was within size restrictions. No worries through security and as was pointed out above, they sell them in the duty free. However always worth checking with the airline prior...
