Afternoon All, I'm heading to Portugal on holiday in August for 10 days and I'm contemplating upgrading my current lens, a Canon EF-S 17-85mm, before I go away. My camera is a 500D. Ideally I'm only wanting to take away a single lens, but I could be swayed if there's better ideas out there...

Bit of a disappointment in my eyes, certainly not an upgrade option for me! As previously mentioned, for an additional £100, the 7D is a no-brainer really.

More importantly, what's your budget? You can get some VERY reasonably priced systems nowadays. You mention a 15" screen - is this simply for portability? - A Larger screen would 'generally' give you a bigger resolution, thus - better quality images. Processors - Its generally a "norm"...

I bought a Kenko Circular PL from eBay just before christmas, unfortunately - my comments mimic those previously stated. The actual effect of the polarizer is far weaker than that of my old Hoya on my old lens. Also the build quality isn't up to scratch in comparison - feels slightly flimsy...

can't speak for Nikon - but I bought some unbranded Canon LP-E5 batteries from said "internet auction site" - and i've had no bother so far. Like everything though i suppose you get what you pay for, and i dont expect them to last as long as the genuine Canon parts - £5 a pop though you can't...
