    In need of some basics!

I think I grasp it now (having read the exposure thread) - I need to be overexposing by two stops to make the background properly white and then I can always edit to bring back clarity to the objects in the photo if they appear overexposed, but the key is to get the background right first...

    In need of some basics!

Manual - I was shooting at ISO 200, 1/100th, f5.6 which from trial and error provided the best results.

    In need of some basics!

I had the flash off camera on a stand pointed towards the box. It's triggered by a cheap wireless transmitter/receiver and then set-up manually as a result. I was using the flash roughly 2m from the box and set it so that it was appropriately powerful to illuminate 2m away. There was also a...

    In need of some basics!

I haven't tried custom white balance and to be honest it did cross my mind when I was editing - its not something I've paid much attention to before but here where you want a properly white background I'm feeling the need to. So you're saying to shoot just the box to get to a point where I...

    In need of some basics!

Hi - I hope I'm putting this thread in the right place because what I'm doing and trying to find out is really quite basic I think. I have set-up a box with the sides cut out, covered the inside with white card and then have a flashgun on a stand directed from the right of the photo through a...

    First try at pinhole photography

I still think yours has a nicer 'finish' to it as such, darker round the edges, a bit crisper in the middle - think it just takes a bit of getting used to!

    First try at pinhole photography

I've spent the morning making a pinhole out of the body cap of my slr (I do still have one without a hole in it) and then proceeded to take some photos, like you do. I just want to share a few and see what people think, I'm not entirely sure what I've got in terms of results, I know they're...

little help please! - extension tubes

I though it would be worth concluding that I may just have bought the Raynox DCR-250 and it is completely different in terms of ease of use compared to cheap extension tubes - will take a little bit of getting used to but that'd merely an excuse to go and use it :D Thanks everyone!

little help please! - extension tubes

Those Raynox lenses appear (on initial inspection) to be quite good judging from reviews. Would these be a better option - in terms of not degrading image quality as much as a cheaper close-up filter (I've seen then from about £40) ?

little help please! - extension tubes

I've also read about these close-up or macro filters that provide magnification and a therefore a macro effect like with the extension tubes - given that these sit on the other side of the lens would they be another relatively cheap alternative and provide decent results without the faff? Any...

little help please! - extension tubes

The Kenko tubes are still cheaper but not quite as cheap as these ones :P For the sake of £10 I'll have a fiddle with them over the next week and see what I can get out of them - thanks for the help!

little help please! - extension tubes

This is probably cringe-worthy but because they were only £10.80 on ebay, I bought a set of unbranded extension tubes just because I could, and to have a play with. What I haven't really done, is looked into exactly how I should be using these, I've tried them with both my lenses this morning...

    GaryPlumbridge's Photo52, part 17, Tropical added

WOW - I can't believe I've only just found this thread, I've spent a good half hour going through it all and I love every single photo. Like some other people have mentioned its really quite inspiring in making me want to go and try something a bit creative than usual, as well as something in...
