Beginner cheapest way to get into medium format digital

For those without specific resolution requirements I suspect the allure of medium format photographs is the more sudden transition from in-focus to out-of-focus areas of the picture that comes from the bigger sensor & longer focal length lenses* one would use with them. *Note for internet...

    F1 Silverstone

Thanks for the advice and photos. 550D broke today (no idea how it died - no LCD screen and won't take photos, but still have the in-viewfinder info) so looks like it'll be the 5D (mark I) and 100-300 f4.... not the sharpest combo. I guess I'll whack on some teleconverters to get the reach back...

    F1 Silverstone

I'm going, but will be prioritising beer etc over photography. I'm aiming to get at no more than a handful of photos. After a bit of thinking will take the 550D and 55-250 over the 5D and 100-300 f4 and go for slow shutter speed panning shots. Not too worried about locations - we're there for...

Photography Monthly and Professional Photographer to Cease

Even as a beginner I found the articles, particularly tutorials, to lack depth and gave up buying photography magazines in favour of forums and internet articles. It's not that forums are free, it's that the magazine articles were too basic to be of any use.

Reliable methods to get images ready to print - always too dark

I too have this 'problem' and solved it by having a preset calibrated by eye to a printed image; I just flick it to that preset before processing something to be printed. My rather elderly monitor is probably not capable of being properly calibrated, but I still get usable results.

    A4 Printer recommendatiosn please

In my experience, print heads blocking are often a result of turning the power off at the wall, rather than using the button on the printer (so it can clean the ink out of the print head before it powers down). I went through a series of (thankfully cheap) Epson printers before I discovered...

I got an old lady to pose for me...

It must be hard to think of something that hasn't been done with the Queen, this chap has managed it. Pity about the two catchlights in the eyes - could have fixed that in post.

    Light and small travelling laptop

The T100 is a Windows laptop, that also splits in half to become a Windows tablet. It comes with a free copy of MS Office.

    Nikon or Canon?

Nikon or Canon? Depends what your friends have - when you have a question or a problem it's nice to have an expert in that camera system help you.

    Canon macro lens

The only macro lens for Canon that gets anything other than positive reviews is the Sigma 50mm. All others, including the one you're looking at, get positive reviews - you can't go wrong. Edit: Canon do a 50mm macro lens that only goes to 1:2... so yeah, you could go wrong :) Edit 2...

    PLEASE HELP :(:(

One more thing, you said you got the card from 7dayshop. I've had fake stuff from them in the past (fake Duracell branded memory card, of all things) so the card may not be the real deal.

    PLEASE HELP :(:(

Search for and download photorec. If they're on there it'll find it. Not the easiest to use program but is the best at finding & recovering stuff. Let us know how you got on.
