That seems OK. You've got 2x2.8 lenses which are much the same as everyone else uses. Getty etc might have moved on to 1DXs but a lot of guys who buy their own gear still use MKIIIs. Perhaps the 40D is limited in terms of fps and ISO whilst it's not ideal I would have thought it was adequate...
See below. Incidentally, the day you asked about I was supposed to be with you but it was postponed.
Parking
No press parking. I parked in a secure area off Manningham Lane (the main road past the ground) which cost £3.00. There is street parking along Manningham Lane but not a lot.

Also you might get away with slower shutter speeds in Rugby if the players are running straight towards you.
Try under exposing by 2/3rds and then lighten the image in the post processing it's not perfect but perhaps worth a try. Shoot in RAW when the light drops
By setting the WB manually but it's trial and error and then you might not get it right then. Someone else on here will have a recipe I'm sure but I've never managed to get it right.
Love the Blog Post. It tells it like it is. I could substitute clubs in the North and Midlands for the London ones but the poor Internet connections, Yellow or green casts on floodlights (Liverpool/Middlesbrough), Food (Newcastle & Birmingham are excellent most others are poor or non existent)...
I use the following with a 400mm lens Aperture 2.8 Shutter Speed 1/800 ISO Auto but set between 100 & 6400 However as Kipax suggest a lot depends on what gear you are using and what footy you are shooting. You would get away with a slower shutter speed if you were shooting kids football I also...
