That's an interesting option. What's the IQ like compared to a Canon L-series? I have a very old Tamron SP Macro lens that's simply astoundingly sharp, so I guess I'm pretty open minded to 3rd party lenses.

Hi, I'm looking at getting the 70-200 f/4 L IS lens, and am also musing over an extender, either a 1.4x or a 2x. My main reason for this route (both the f/4 and an extender) is weight - I'll mostly be hiking when using this kit, and living in Oz, there's usually plenty light so shouldn't often...

Second the 135L f/2 - we hired a bunch of primes for the tog at out wedding. That's stunning album, and for ll the liking I wanted to do of the 85L f/1.2, the 135's a sharper lens... It's not so shabby for semi-macro either... IMG_9947 by Mark-Farrell, on Flickr

I almost forgot... I hired a 24L and 14L for my mate who togged our wedding. They were exceptional, but the 14L in particular also has an exceptional price... It would be good to get hold of those lenses and a few old ones for a true like-for-like comparison...

You guys should see the prices here in Oz. I'm planning my year's camera shopping around my trip back to blighty for xmas! (And sadly due to having so little time, I don't have the chance to pop land-side at Changi for the obvious deals)

Well, Jacobs are also more expensive than the internet, and I've had some pretty good advice from Warehouseexpress etc, so why would you buy in person at all if they don't give advice?!?
