Canon EOS 20D, or Sony Alpha 290

What's your overall budget including lenses? The Canon 20d is a great camera for the price, but if you can stretch a little bit more I'd get the 30d, there aren't that many upgrades but the screen is much bigger and this does make a difference. I still have my 20d. I think Ffordes have the 20d...

    Value for money?

It is a bit daft, but funds are tight at the moment and it's not my only camera. I don't want to just blow £150 (£200 inc postage) on fixing it without some idea of the length of service a new shutter might afford.

    Value for money?

My mk1 Canon 5D's shutter has failed and I've had a reasonable quote of £150 to fix (not including P&P). My question is - will this prolong the life of the camera sufficiently to make the cost of repair worth it? The shutter count was only around 15,000.

Taking a DSLR to India - convince me (or dissuade me!)

Agreed, there seemed little point in voicing such an opinion (when it doesn't really address the question of the OP) beyond sneering at the question. In answer to the OP - depends on what sort of shots you want to capture, and how much you want to carry. I travelled around China in '02 with...

Recommend me a location(s) in and around Milton Keynes

Campbell Park, Willen Lake, Furzton Lake, Linford Wood, Shenley Wood (an ancient wood).... There's not really much here (or maybe I'm too used to the place). Some of the older villages like Woolstone, Loughton, Woughton-on-the-Green might be worth shooting..

    T189 Open University Course

I was very tempted to do this, and am still considering it. I think it's a good idea and my only reservation is that, like you said, it's all online. Before committing to the course I'm going to search around the local colleges to see if there are evening classes that I can attend, contact time...

Does Using a Fixed/Limited Range Focal Lenght(s) Help or Hinder Creativity? VOTE NOW!

I think this is the key point here. Why force yourself to use only one tool when it's more than reasonable to carry both zooms and primes? If you're able to capture creative compositions with a zoom lens, then there's just no need to use a prime to force thought about composition. Unless there...

    Hello from Bucks!

Greetings and salutations. I've only just discovered TP but have been interested in photography for over a decade. I mainly photograph while traveling, my job is a banal irritation but allows me to see places and I've found that my passion for the still image makes up for lonely nights in...

What do you say to yourself while preparing a shot?

'Be safe, stay sharp, make good decisions!' Lugging a 17-55mm Nikkor that looks like a proton pack on my back helps pull it off.
