Advice required on which DSLR to buy

Hi, I have been looking into buying a DSLR. Im a complete beginner but would love to be able to start off by taking pictures of my young children and then progressing into taking pictures of flowers, insects etc. My head is a shed at the minute as there seems so much choice The Nikon D3100...
