A 300mm lens will likely be fine as long as you aren't stuck up in the main stands.
My preferred spot is behind the garages on the sharp right hander (there's a small platform there but you're better off getting right up to the wire).
Full frame = big lenses and lots of £££ but better results (IMHO)
Crop frame = smaller lenses and less £££ and less weight to cart about
But.....
With Nikons crop frame = less fps. Not that its usually an issue.
