Agreed, Canon don't have a great record when it comes to ribbon cables! Suspect that it's not a DIY repair and will have to buy a complete replacement unit.

Yes, but I'm only curious as DPP is not reporting a value in the distance field for the 16/35, but a distance value is quoted for all my other lens. Wondering why? The lens is switched to AF, obviously no distance would be given if left on MF. H

Totally agree with you, it's either in focus or not, no need for a DPP focus distance estimate! BUT having just bought it wondered if the non-reporting by DPP meant something that wasn't quite 100% right with it, as all my other lenses were posting values in the distance field. Hence asking...
