I'm also a beginner and bought it after my 2nd hand 1000D was stolen. I cant fault it at all although I only got 18-55mm kit lens and would love a 55-250mm . HD Video is great but eats up memory card space, and harddrive space for that matter!

I have a 550D and that lens but certainly haven't noticed anything like that in my photos which would suggest something isnt' right. That said I'm pretty new to the whole photography thing so I'm probably not the best person to listen to :) Can you borrow one from someone else to try it out?
