I'm also a beginner and bought it after my 2nd hand 1000D was stolen. I cant fault it at all although I only got 18-55mm kit lens and would love a 55-250mm . HD Video is great but eats up memory card space, and harddrive space for that matter!
I have a 550D and that lens but certainly haven't noticed anything like that in my photos which would suggest something isnt' right.
That said I'm pretty new to the whole photography thing so I'm probably not the best person to listen to :)
Can you borrow one from someone else to try it out?

I bought a second hand EOS1000D on here and then followed it with a 50mm 1.8 "nifty fifty" as others have suggested but its very dependent on what you want to...
Thanks for all the opinions - guess its not going to be significantly cheaper for the flash and given I've got little time to do anything other than work I'd rather relax for the sake of a few £s. I'm not in the market for lens at the moment - need to learn how to use the ones I've got first :D
Hi folks
I'm off to Japan next week on a flying business trip and was wondering whether the prices of equipment out there was lower/high/same as in the UK?
Specifically thinking of a Canon 430EX II which I've been offered as a pressie by OH but would need to source. And as I'm going out...
Hi Stuart,
thanks for the recommendations - I'm going to give Tesco a shot - be daft not to try it at those prices although there is now a 14 day delivery time due to the high demand. I'm getting the canvases for the grandparents for Xmas pressies too.

hi folks
this is probably a stupid question but I am looking to get a couple of photos printed on 12x8 canvas and one of them is causing me problems. the image details are:
Image Size 5184x3456 (so its a 3x2 format)
- I need the full width but the majority of landscape canvas sizes...
Avoid pixmania like the plague - based in France and customer service is basically non-existent. We ordered something that was in stock and ready for dispatch but somehow never managed to leave the warehouse. And as it had technically started shipping (according to Pixmania) the order couldn't...
I pciked up a Canon 550D with kit lens for £539 from Dixons a few weeks ago so keep your eye out for bargains. Also I believe there is a £30 cashback offer on the 550D thats been extended (it was meant to expire on June 1st) and there is always the possibility of cashback from Quidco etc.
But...
Bit like everything technology related - overclocking PCs is a prime example. Lots of people know what to change to make something faster but other than perhaps know what the acronym stands for, dont have a clue what they are actually modifying.
If its keeping you in the matter to which you...
