Gels - I know nothing, ps help

Great feedback Alexam. Looking at the Strobist Filter Collection, could be just what I need. Would you recommend a gel holder to pair with them or fit under the wide-flash adapter (I think this would melt the filters though)? Cheers Bruce

Gels - I know nothing, ps help

Hi all I wanted to get some gels so that i can modify flash colour when under artificial light. Do you have any recommendations? I hear cheap ones can melt/become deformed easily. Do I also need some form of bracket to hold them? All advice gratefully received. Cheers Bruce...

The "how would you edit this photo" game.

Absolute classic. I cannot find Ted BTW, I'm not even sure he's there. But it doesn't matter whether he is or not. Made me laugh.

    Suggest a lens - D3100

When you say work with subjects close up, what do you mean? Do you mean you like to work near the subject or that you like the images to appear close up by working further away? What pics are you taking or wanting to take exactly? Don't know where you got the idea that lenses are expensive...

    I hate Medium Format

some of those shots are stunning, but his use of light and colour is also totally amazing. i'm not convinced that these shots can only be made on MF, but then again, I could never take these shots not matter what camera i was holding.

    High end compact advice please.

I tried both the LX-5 and S95 in a shop recently. I preferred the panny for handling but image quality of the S95 was superb, beating the LX-5 in my opinion. The ZX-1 is meant to be useful too, but not tried. However, neither came close to what I wanted from a high end compact, so i am...

    Wide angle lens

I have the 10-20 sigma on my D300 and it's a great lens. Can be picked up mint used for just under £300.

    nikon lenses question

I use a 80-200/2.8 AF-D two ring with a Sigma x1.4 APO teleconverter on a D300 with an MB-D10 grip and it's really not a problem weight wise. As others have pointed out keep your shutter speed as high as you can.

    Should I go Nifty 50 - Nikon

I run a Sigma 50/1.4 on my D300 and it's an awesome portrait lens for head and shpoulder shots. I sold my Nikon 50/1.8 to get it. The Nikon was great. Cheap, reasonably sharp wide open but the Sigma blows it away. Lovely creamy bokeh, as sharp at 1.4 as the Nikon was at 1.8, fast AF with...

    Best lens 17-50 length

I too can recommend the Tamron. I have the non VC, non BIM version on my D300. Picked up used £240 off a dealer. Focus isn't the fastest, but you cannot argue with the output for the price. If you have more the new Sigma 17-50/2.8 HSM OS is getting some decent early reviews and can be picked...

    10 Stop Filter recommendations

Hi All, Want to invest some time in long exposure work. I am interested in the Lee Big Stopper, as it a slot based filter and I already have their Foundation system. I don't really want a screw in, as my lenses are 67 and 77mm and it would consider it inflexible. The Big Stopper is...

    Views on MPB Photographic

I have purchased a teleconverter and a lens from them, both I considered to be good value and were in excellent condition. I have sold them a lens. I didn't get the money I wanted for it, but it wasn't bad. They gave me £75 for it (I wanted £90) and sold it for less than £100 (£94 I think) so...

    CF Cards, Where ?

Well Rocket, I would have suggested Picstop too. They and Amazon always appear to be the best for Sandisk.

B&B/Restaurant images what lens to use?

UPDATE: didn't see you last reply. Seems like a good decision. ------------------------------------------------------------ It depends on the room. I recently used 17mm on a D300 and it wasn't wide enough (that's 24mm FX equivalent). However 24mm on a D700 might be enough for you, I don't...
