    Lens/Camers storage - Dry Cabinets

This is something I've never even contemplated - doesn't this matter for weather sealed gear in a typical home?

    Linux Mint

I'm now firmly a Cachyos daily driver but keeping W11 dual boot for photo editing, CAD and gaming. Lightroom classic has firmly gone for me, I've gone fully over to DxO photolab with the added bonus that my backup sizes now reduced as I can backup the original RAW file rather than DNG, a...

    What GPUs

AM5 has just been confirmed as having two more Ryzen generations so could be a good move.

Recommend me a Linux distro and photo editing software ... please!

I've looked at doing this, the things that have put me off are: - no lightroom classic - no pureraw support (I regularly shoot at 12800+ so want to denoise)

    What GPUs

4080 Super. Takes about 3-5 seconds per image. Using PureRAW.

PC Cases and cooling for Graphics Cards

Where have you heard it's bad for cooling? Typically the riser mounts are the worst due to proximity to the side of the case and reduced Airflow.

    Does DDR5 help Lightroom?

The point being made is the DDR4 and DDR5 modules are physically different. You won't really notice a difference in performance but if you buy DDR4 it won't fit!

PC Upgrade - minimum Intel gen for good Lightroom performance ?

If you're going to use some of the newer features then yes e.g. Denoise

Anyone else favouring phone over camera?

With good lighting then they're superb as happy snappers and some firms so their product photography with them. When you start wanting things like fast moving subjects in low light, greater aperture and focal length control etc then you're still back on a faithful camera. There's a reason...

Beginner A beginners first proper adventure, and when are you no longer a beginner?

Personally I'd say you're no longer a beginner when you can get a reasonable amount of positive feedback without any caveats about your inexperience etc - i.e. People appreciate your work for what it is. BUT if I stopped there that would be a hugely misleading post. You could be accomplished...

    Any norms for bag layout?

    Neat! Pelican case?

    Any norms for bag layout?

Are there any norms for laying a bag out in a particular way or is it all a case "whatever fits"? Just got a flipside 500 so I can have a single bag. Currently an r6mk2 with 70-200 in there and an m50 with 17-55 but that's likely to become something similar in size to the r6 shortly. Thanks...

    Canon - options containing 400mm f5.6

Sorry I should have said, needs to be zoom. Fairly major omission by me there.

    Canon - options containing 400mm f5.6

OK let's expand a bit on that title. I'm contemplating adding a bit more reach to my lens collection (200mm is my current max). Looking at my use cases then the bare minimum I'd want at the long end is 400mm f5.6. A bit more reach would be nice as would a faster lens (but the latter results in...

    Best lightweight system?

Slightly different angle, but what about putting some of the heavier items in a bum back so it's taking weight on your hips, or a rucksack with proper hip straps?
