Even using firefox's full screen mode on a 1920 x 1200 screen I have to scroll down to view a portrait oriented photo.
It's quite a jump from the 640 pixel image they used to display.
I wouldn't say the 135L is hands down a better portrait lens than the 70-200/4 IS as you're forced to zoom with your feet, but being 2 stops faster it obviously produces more background separation than the 70-200 at 135mm f/4.
They're both useful portrait lenses but in different situations...
It can take a bit of time to learn how to get the best from an extension tube and to figure out which tube pairs up with each of your lenses, but once you're comfortable with using them you can get some great results.
I find the 36mm tube fitted to my 70-200 is the most versatile combo.

The viewfinder in the 400D only shows 95% of the image that the sensor will capture. See here.
IIRC Until the 7D came along, 100% viewfinders were reserved for the 1D & 1Ds lines only.
Same here. Also the 100% viewfinder is lovely, the LCD screen is lovely, the AF micro adjust is handy and the Video mode is nice to have too.
I upgraded from a 40D last year and haven't looked back.
