Canon EF 400mm DO IS USM Mk1/Mk2 Owners thread

Bit of an elderly thread now, wonder if all posters have migrated elsewhere from using R bodies plus whatever L or DO sweeties Canon sells for its new range… In case anyone still views this thread, I have the older mk1 DO 400, just read that Canon don’t support it any more - that’s a blow for...

    buying a used lens

Old thread, but not irrelevent - yet. Here's my tupppenceworth for anyone getting this in an archive search. My experiences on ebay with expensive lenses (for me anyway) ended up - not so great. I bought an EF 300 F4L IS USM and the auto diaphragm died several months later. The lens looked...

    Sooooo much cheaper- why?

An ancient thread, but these things can still show up in search results so - Mention's been made of buying nice recent fresh looking lenses via ebay. I've done that twice. Both times the lens arrived just as described. but inside several months the auto diaphragm in each went AWOL. Off to the...

    Canon DPP V.4.0

Just received an email from Canon's CPN newsletter service - DPP V4 is now available. BUT it's only for the current range of FF models. So not even the 5D2 is catered for, nor the high-end cropper, the 7D. Along with all the hundreds of thousands of XXD and XXXD crop models, all not-current...

Canon 5D MK I 'classic' - owners thread

I've got three bodies, a 5d, 5d2, and a 7d - and have found dust, eventually, on all three's sensors. Annoying. The 5d classic wouldn't surrender its bits of grot to the only kit I had to clean things up, ad simple blower. Incidentally, said blower was fond of spitting out its delivery spout...

Canon 5D MK I 'classic' - owners thread

Here's a couple of bird shots. Took my 5d1 out with an ef300 f4l is usm just to see how it coped, found it coped just fine. Static and BIF shots. Usually use a 7d for this stuff but I was surprised how well the old camera performed. (Probably shouldn't have been?)...

    Canon G12 or S100

Also have a G12, for about eight weeks in my case, and would be reluctant to accept your shop assistant's word on that IQ comparison, it's not going to be released till the new year's past (according to the entry for it on Amazon). Certainly my G12 can't match my old 40d for IQ in lower light...

7DayShop takes 7 days to arrive?

My orders have always come through inside a week, and I've never found 7DS to be unreliable. I don't think they claim speed in delivery as part of what's on offer, but their prices are hard to ignore as a rule. Perhaps if you need things yesterday you could try asking for an uprated delivery...
