I like it when people talk in 'basically' terms, those are the ones I understand! I think I know what you mean, I'll try reading the setting with my camera on auto and see if I can work it out from there.

Gad How did you work out that it was 60 seconds and not the 10 seconds that was mentioned in the other post? What is the rule to use to establish the exposure length at different apertures?

Thanks, that makes sense. One other thing... Some one said to step the f1.4 down to f5.6 for sharper pictures, but if I am going to shoot at f5.6 or smaller then why buy an f1.4 in the first place, I am misunderstanding something? I guess I am but I'm not sure what?

When would I need IS and why? Not using tripod just handheld photography, do I need it? Or is it just a gimmick? Canons 24-70 doesn't have it and that costs 2k so why do I need it on a £200 lens?

If you are going to walk around Birmingham with an expensive camera, definitely go during the day and depending on how expensive your kit is you may want to take some security professionals with you. Not saying Birmingham is rough but in some parts even the rats carry flick knives!

For that money you could've got a mac! A proper computer :blush:

You could also use iPhoto

If you use a mac, 'preview' works well, just select a crop and paste it to a 'new from clipboard' it crops perfectly to exactly what you need.
