Cheers Stuart! You're a star! We usually shoot in manual, but due to the light changing so much AV came into action. The flash sync speed explains it all. Makes sense now. I'll put his mind at rest. Thanks again for your time on this. I really appreciate it. Kind regards Dave.

Hi Stuart, If you havent got fed up with these delays, here is one of the images he took, with this strange issue. Below are the details he sent me, I think it explains the problem better than I did. "camera is set to f4 (AV), without flash switched on, all pictures are shot at f 4 turn flash...

That's right. We selected f/4, took shots with varying light levels and the data shows f/5.6, f/8, etc. very odd! Got to be something simple, just can't figure it out.

Help please, this is a bit of an odd one! My assistant photographer is using a 5D mk1 with a 430exii speedlite and a 24-105 f4 l is. When shooting in av mode at f4 with the flash on ettl, the on camera info is recording various apertures. Google has nothing. I'm hoping someone here has come...

It's been a while since this post. Done a few weddings now with great results. Rear sync is my saviour!!! nice result with some ambient light in there. Almost bought a 5,000,000 candle watt torch, but thought it wasn't very practical ;-) Nice tips though, Thanks!

Sorry guys, been off a while. Lens was on a 5d mk1. Found the af assist on the flash helps a lot. Not sure if the 430ex2 will suppress the flash not to fire though? Just had to turn it right down and spin it out of the way.

Hi Andrea, They are getting married in a little Hall in York. It seems the general consensus is they will be well trained. One of us will be at the venue beforehand to liase with the handler and get some test shots. V Fast lens me thinks!!!
