    Advice appreciated

I don't feel it was uncalled for at all. OP asked for advice, got some, didn't appreciate it, replied 2 weeks later still on a downer because the advice was deemed not good enough. The fact that they didn't get ripped apart just goes to prove that this is a friendly forum indeed and why my...

Got two good replies to a limited question (brand and budget), thread finished, no need for anymore. And even those two replies were both within 20 minutes!

Agree that is is near impossible to know about all the products in a Comet store so the best approach would be honesty rather than the BS that usually occurs. The best a store could do for a customer is to provide a decision analysis form and then provide a database that matches the form. For...

    Fuji x100

It sounds similar to the Sigma DP cameras. Fantastic IQ but poor user interface and function (especially with expectations on a £900 camera). I love my DP1 because it fits what I do (considered shots of non moving subjects) and gives me the images I want. Difference is it cost me £100 and...

The point was that neither of us know which cameras were being discussed so neither of us know where the 36X zoom was getting the extra 16 from (wider with same narrow or same wide and narrower) and how that would factor into the buyers use of the camera. The Comet employee could have been...

As for the 16mm, do you use your current camera at it's widest all the time? Problem is the 55-210 can't go wide at all so may need both if you tend to use a full range of zoom currently.

Fair point, although you can't say that either as neither of us know the focal lengths :) Also, have you ever been in Comet...

You may well change your mind once you own either of the cameras and use them for a few weeks anyway. The camera that seems on paper to be perfect doesn't always turn out that way after a few weeks use. That's why I bought second hand until I got a better idea of what I wanted after using each...

but you sort of need a know it all in a specific shop such as Jessops, as long as their know it all knowledge is correct!. The problem with retail is that most people who work in shops are not there because it is their dream job and for most it is just another job in a shop (in this case a...

If you like the Sony why not get it. What is stopping you and what will an SLR provide that is stopping your Sony purchase? Do those additional SLR things actually matter or would it just be a case of it must be better because they are there (even if you don't use them)

What do you use within the 16x zoom. Do you use the wide end alot, the narrow end a lot or something in between? To avoid having to have a houseful of lenses it may be better to go with an 18-200 for general use and maybe a 35 or 50 prime for low aperture stuff (low light, shallow DOF etc,.)...

You really do need to try an SLR to see if the differences are worth it to you and are differences you would use or notice. If we ignore image quality (which we almost can when mentioning Nex5) and the like the biggest differences to me are focus speed and the more immediate changes to settings...
