Traveling Sites (not as in Pikeys)

Have a look over at the Lonely Planet forums, been a while, but they did have forums for different regions, someone is bound to have done a similar thing before.

    Best way to preserve chillis?

We dry them, either air dried like has been said - on a piece of string/thread, lay them out on a rattan mat or when you have finished with the oven, leave them in overnight. When they're dried we put them into an old pepper/salt grinder. perfect for adding some spice to a pizza or other food...

You have 1000 pounds to spend on a computer...

I'd go for Mac (thinking back that is what I should have done 18 months ago), you can dual boot with windows if you really must have windows platform software. For £1k you could get something pretty quick PC spec wise. If you're a student or can somehow find a work around (know a teacher?)...

    Raynox DCR-250

Keep an eye on the classifieds, they come up pretty often.

    Canon1000D, 50D, 500D.

I would recommend the 500D. The 1000D for me felt a bit too cheap and plasticy, maybe this was a subconcious thing though. I also tried the comparable Nikons but they didn't feel right either, the menus etc didn't seem so well laid out. As has already been said, with the 500D you get an IS lens...

Hotel breakfasts - Why do I do it?

To add to the discussion regarding regional additions to a Fried Breackfast. When I was working in Ireland they had on offer both black & white pudding, white was pretty spicy if I remember rightly and very nice. Not seen or had it since though. If you are staying in a hotel, whether for work...

    Any fishkeepers out there?

Koi keeper here. Would love a marine tank but I don't have the time to look after one. :(

    What software?

I always found PS a bit of a faff and a pretty steep learning curve if you haven't used anything similar before. As others have said GIMP and Picassa are free and will do most basic things well with minimal effort. I have just started to use Lightroom and so far I'm finding it fantastic to...

Views on the Crumpler Muffin Top 1/2 backpack?

http://www.worldofbags.co.uk/bags/laptop-bags/laptop-backpacks/crumpler-muffin-top-half-photo-backpack Does anyone have one of these, what are your opinions of it? I'd be hoping to use it to carry a 500D plus 18-55mm lens on a weekend (plus some bits and bobs) and as a replacement for my...

High end Compact vs DSLR old stock

Cheers for the heads up Richard - I've searched the forum, and the Raynox really looks a decent peice of kit for the money, some of the shots I've seen are fantastic!

High end Compact vs DSLR old stock

I just went with the kit 18-55 IS lens, mainly because the 400D was at the thick end of my budget, so the little I have left will have to go on cards, tripod and a decent bag.

High end Compact vs DSLR old stock

In celebration of my 100th post I thought I would update on my situation regarding purchasing a DSLR. I'm now (or will be when it arrives) the owner of a Canon 500D, bought after a trip to a well known high street seller of white goods. What I wasn't expecting when I got there was that there...
