I take exception to your statement. Your opinion is not fact and if you aren't intelligent enough to realise that then perhaps you should refrain from posting at all.
If you want to delete 100's of photos then plug it in - remember it's not supposed to replace a computer!
What random names are you talking about. If iPhoto auto names an event it's usually with the date the images were taken (at least on my systems!).
The only way to block delete is by pressing the button in the top right of the screen while viewing the thumbnails, then selecting all the images you want to delete (by ticking one at a time) then hit the delete button.
It's not as much of a ball ache as it sounds because you can tick each...
Yes, it's all native, no extra software required. Works with both the 5DMkii and 7d (and all the rest I dare say).
EDIT: You do need to buy the camera connection kit though (£25).
