    Nikon Z* mirrorless

It's funny reading this here because I was on the DPR forums the other day and there's a long thread with people all agreeing how much they like the Z8's size and weight. I definitely agree with you on the Sony sizes and when sorting through some cameras I was surprised it was the A9 I had in...

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

I think it's more a design choice because it's a video focused camera than a technical limitation. The A7C among others is a good bit smaller and has a viewfinder, I'd take a slightly smaller screen and viewfinder over a single large screen for photo use which is why I'm hoping they produce a...

Electronic shutter indoor banding - will it ever be fixed ?

I believe it's mostly down to the speed of the electronic shutter so the cameras with high speed stacked sensors (like the Nikon Z8/Z9, Sony A1/A9 and some of the Canons) have a much faster readout which reduces banding.

Beginner Card reader or just download from camera.

If you're not familiar with it, I'd recommend RealTimeTrains which shows a schedule of every train and where it is: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/detailed/ It can be a bit tricky to read because many of the freight paths will be entered but they don't always run (usually marked with...

Beginner Card reader or just download from camera.

10 power cars went to Nigeria, 11 to Mexico, a few for preservation and railtours, some are being used for stock moves and Colas have been replacing the 37s with 43s on the measuring trains but Scotrail took the bulk of them with 52 power cars. Due to increasing problems with the units making...

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

That's the card I use in my Z8 mostly so I could use it for 20fps shooting and never had any issues with it, if anything it's a bit too easy to keep going at 20fps because the camera doesn't slow down or fill up a buffer. Although Sabrent aren't well known for memory cards they specialise in...

The price increase on CFexpress Cards WOW!!!

Unfortunately not with gaming PCs probably being hit the hardest so far with prices way up on ram and SSDs with GPUs looking to follow at least with shortages initially. It's really difficult to know where the market is going to go because there's some expectations that the situation will calm...

The price increase on CFexpress Cards WOW!!!

Unfortunately we're just seeing the start of problems with ram and SSD prices but it's going to affect anything which uses solid state storage and ram, with systems where those are a smaller part the rise won't be as bad but it is meaning some systems have poor availability. I have a couple of...

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

I have the Sigma 150-600mm contemporary I used on the Z8 and happy with the performance for the cost, I don't use the lens a huge amount due to the weight but you'll be familiar with that aspect already.

Non-Davinci Resolve simple video editor recommendations

It's not so much daunting it's just I've come to realise it's not for me, some software you really click with and it suits your way of thinking and some software you just don't. I've been trying to use Davinci Resolve for years now and it just doesn't click with me which in turn puts me off it...

A good CFexpress Memory Card (Type B) for my Nikon Z6 III?

There's a long thread for the Nikon Z cameras which may be useful to ask what cards people are using: https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/nikon-z-mirrorless.688772/ What you've described doesn't really sound like it's a slow card issue to me because I've used video on my Z8 with an SD...

Tips for taking camera equipment through airports

Why did you luggage have to go in the hold, just not enough space on the plane?

Tips for taking camera equipment through airports

That's a good option and one I've been considering because I think I'll have space in my hold luggage. What I was also thinking was I bought the insert for the backpack which is another bag in its own right that fits into the top section of the backpack and the lower rotation part is also its...

Tips for taking camera equipment through airports

The backpack I want to take is a fair bit bigger than the Computreker so I don't think would fit under the seat. I do have a smaller backpack with a similar design to the computreker I was thinking I could take to the airport and repack if they refused the larger backpack (I find the rotation...

Beginner Card reader or just download from camera.

Good choice, the data transfer on some older cameras could be painfully slow and I've primarily used card readers for most cameras. One word of warning though is to be careful not to leave the card in the reader which I've done many times, I usually try to leave the memory card door open on the...
