I have experienced a similar problem and the fault was the card reader on my laptop. If I downloaded the pics through an external cardreader they were fine, and similarly if I downloaded them straight from the camera.
Thanks for that Andy ... the decision has now been taken out of my hands as I was given the D90 as a gift at the weekend, complete with the rather nice 18-105 VR kit lens. Had a quick play with it last night... a lot of it is very familiar as I also have the D80 ... and I like what I see...
Thanks for that ... been having a look round and it seems there is a Huey Pro and huey display colour calibration kit which is considerably cheaper. Does anyone know what the difference is between the two... and would the cheaper one be false economy?

OK, so I have just made a slideshow in Windows Movie Maker and was really pleased with the end result. But I burned it to a disc and tried it on a different computer and the pics appeared all squashed up! I made the slideshow on a computer with Vista ... the other computer wasn't? Do you think...
Can anyone recommend a program for reducing noise? There seem to be a few around so I'd like to know if there are any which are better than others. One with a free trial would be good so I can give it a go first. Cheers guys
