Thinking about moving to Olympus OMD-EM1 from 70D

Only had my E-M1 for less than a week and I'm getting better results than when I had my D700, D7100 and NEX-7. The 12-40 is absolutely lovely (I need to learn to zoom in the opposite direction that I'm used to though!) and the 25mm 1.4 is perfect in low light - both focus in an instant. The...

Help me! Move to M43 or not?!

In 2011 I had a D700 that was sold to make way for a Sony NEX-7, I took more photos but had fewer 'keepers' due to the AF speed... At the start of this year I purchased a D7100 and realised that a non-EVF camera really didn't appeal - I also didn't like the additional size and weight. So, I'm...

    Laptop headache!!

I'd look at the Microsoft Surface - either a Core i5 Surface 2 or the newly announced Core i3 Surface 3 - both are around the £600 mark. Use an external USB3 drive for a local RAW copy (or full size JPEG) and use the on-line backup for your processed JPEGS - you should be spending more time...

3 in 1 document printer scanner copier

Recently got one of these http://www.epson.co.uk/gb/en/viewcon/corporatesite/products/mainunits/overview/10831 and find it brilliant - quick to start from sleep and economical too with the inks. Looks like it's been replaced by a new model so you may find a cheap one?

Dell QDH (3200 X 1800) Truelife screens any good?

I've not noticed any colour shift on my screen at all, but will have another look tonight. I'm looking to get the below as I use them on my mobile (Nexus 5) with good effect: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00G6BOBN4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1TPBMLXZVOE6D&coliid=I1J7B88M0HMR00

    Anyone living in Halifax

Lived in Halifax for 10 years and recently moved back down South. It's a centrally located place to be near to most locations, unless you have to travel to the UK extremities - lovely landscapes and architecture (Piece Hall, Wainhouse Tower and Dean Clough are great) and most of the locals are...

NAS or file server for storage & backup?

Sounds like the powerline adaptor is your slow bit (going over wireless will also be slow unless on the new ac version) It may be easier to get Linux working along with rsync (as arad85 suggests) or robocopy (however bear in mind that both will sync changes so neither are really a 'backup'...

    Off the shelf laptop...

Just to point out that the best deals are available on line and you do get far more rights as distance selling rules apply - this would tick all your requirements: Dell i7-4500U, GT 750M 2GB DDR5, 16GB 1600Mhz RAM, FULL HD, TOUCH SCREEN £719.10 @ Dell...

Dell QDH (3200 X 1800) Truelife screens any good?

I have the new XPS 15 with the high res screen and it's lovely, however I do find the menu items in Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 to be a tad on the small size and as such in general operation the touch screen is a bit hit and miss on certain websites unless you scale the page to 150%... Would I...

Nikon 18-200 VRII - lack of sharpness at the long end...

Phil - I'd be happy with that! Nod, you should be able to click on the thumbnail to launch a larger image?

Nikon 18-200 VRII - lack of sharpness at the long end...

The chairs in the second set of pictures were not as far away as the holiday snaps and potentially the heat haze was partially to blame? Happy to put it down to user error, but I do have a fair bit of experience :) Used filters on every lens I've owned (including 'comparable' Nikon 80-200 f2.8...

Nikon 18-200 VRII - lack of sharpness at the long end...

Right, just taken with and without the filter and it does seem to make a difference, but it looks like a focus issue - both were exposed at 1/1600 @ f5.6 and using manual focus (focussed on the first chair) with VR off. With filter: Without filter: In my eyes, without the filter is sharper?

Nikon 18-200 VRII - lack of sharpness at the long end...

I do happen to have a Hoya Pro-1 Digital UV filter on both lenses... Pictures now uploaded straight from camera but resized to 1920 (first is at 170mm - second at 20mm).
