Cheers James, And these lens can be used very close up to the subject? I do not really understand macro photography at present, I want a lens that will enable me to get close and fill the frame with often very small models I wan to take shots of.

If you are shooting the night sky or landscapes are you using a tripod? I would presume you are as you will have to use long exposures for some shots. If that is the case then VR or any form or image stabilisation would not be required.

Looks like no one is fan of the Tamron lens then?

I have been looking at the Tamron, they go for about £170 new, the Sigma seem to have stopped there one and now do a 18-250 instead which is about £400. Spoke to one shop about P/X they have offered £50 on the kit lens and about £80 on the 55-200mm, does that seem fair?
