Hi Thanks for all the replies. After reading comments on the Nikon 80-400mm around the net, i`m still not convinced its the lens considering the cost. The focusing just doesnt seem quick enough for what I want. Does anyone have any suggestions of other lenses? J

Trouble with that is everyone is a different size. Least with camera gear with the bag you know what size the bag will be compared to your camera.

I was looking for something similar recently and I came down to either the Ricoh R6/R7 or the Canon IXUS 860 IS. Both have 28mm wide angle lenses, the Ricoh have a better zoom reach though and theyre both very compact. Downsides are neither are that manual ie you cant have shutter or aperature...
