    New lighting project 2

Garry, its all manual with a studio head. Given my tight quarters I fired down onto my curved BG and flagged the top of the tankard. The engraving is very dull, I'm thinking it doesn't suit brightfield. My image out of camera isnt clipped, the background is anywhere from high 230's to low 250's...

    New lighting project 2

This is something I need way more practice in. I had a go today with this tankard. I didn't have enough room to set up a softbox as the background so its a white board curved and a piece of glass to set the tankard on. My biggest struggle would be trying to keep the engraving visible, haven't...

if you could only have 3 lenses.

I use a 17-40, 24-70 and 70-200 but in an ideal world I'd like to run 35, 85 and 135 primes. I borrowed and shot a headshot with the Canon 135 f2 and its stunning. I use 35 and 85 primes in filmmaking as well when I get the chance.

    Beginning my camera journey

Well you'll get that from a dslr, in a roundabout way. I say get one within your budget and play with it. If you initially struggle to get the results you want, you'll know you just need to learn/practice more, as the camera is capable of it. Good lenses are more important than the camera too...

Good, so what does it do badly? What're you wanting/expecting out of a dslr? Lower noise and higher detail?

    Beginning my camera journey

Hey bud, P20 Pro user here too, they're not bad, are they? Although image sensors in phones have come a long way, they're still tiny compared to the sensor in a dslr which means each pixel in the dslr is larger therefore can perform better, this is especially important in low light. The main...

    I must be getting old

Ah but Hydrogen exists across the universe whereas stupidity is mostly confined to Earth. If we look at the relative ratio between Hydrogen and stupidity within the confines of our planet we find that stupidity is the considerably more common element.

    YouTube quality not good

Here's YouTube recommended settings. https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en-GB Basically for 1080p30 you should be exporting to H. 264 and about 8mb/s otherwise YouTube will reencode it and it won't do a good job. If you have a busy scene (I watch mountain biking and through...

Beginner Advice requested for table top photography on a budget

Hobby craft should still be doing delivery I think. Best way to start is 1 light, have a play and find something you like then add to it. Trying all the lights at once just gets frustrating.

    Camera Upgrade for Landscape Photography

The 17-40 isn't junk, its a good budget ultra wide in place of the 16-35. I'm all ears to a better alternative in the price range though?
