Event photography covers a huge range or processes. Can you explain what sort of event photography you're doing, as I don't recognise that workflow.

Once you go above 200ish then you're almost certainly looking at monopod for support. Also, as has been said, if you use a sensible cover then the weather sealing isn't really important. Personally, I shoot with the Sigma 180-300 sport 2.8 with a 1.4 tele if needed. I find that most flexible...
