It's not out of focus, well I can't really tell but it looks like you need to work on your panning technique and maybe start from 1/250 and work your way down. You could always focus on the bit of the track where the cars will be and switch to MF then you don't need to worry about the camera...

What about situations where it's not convenient to swap batteries and situations where shutter rates will drops off as the power drops down? Just because you can't see how it's useful doesn't mean it's not useful to other people, that's very ignorant.

I think the problem I would have is even with the D610 I would probably find myself wanted a 5DIII. In reality I think I'm better off waiting until I can afford what I want rather than trying to switch systems.
