    How can i improve photo?

Thank you both for the advice, we do seem to be having problems with photographing sketches that are on white paper, the centre third is white but we get shadows on the side thirds for some reason. Glad you like the paintings. :)

    How can i improve photo?

That looks pretty close to the original painting though the painting is a little less greener. The lights were normal household lamps with 100w bulbs. The shot was taken raw (NEF). The painting is about 20" by 24". Would getting a couple of tall lamps and some halogen bulbs improve the...

Thanks richard, we never messed with any deep settings, just the basics, WB, ISO etc. And my friend has Paint shop pro, is that any good?

question about RAW and jpeg images.

The camera does have a software disk, but we haven't installed it as we think it may just be driver for camera to connect. My friend does have Photoshop, but i think it may be an older one, but not sure. We cant seem to open the raw images within his photoshop.

question about RAW and jpeg images.

Hi all as you may be aware i am trying to photograph an oil painting for my friend using a Nikon D5000, the thing we have noticed is when we take a photo as a jpeg, the green seems to go brown, but when we take a photo and leave it as a raw image it keeps all the colour nicely, but a bit dark...

    Photographing paintings.

Thanks for the reply, settled for a Nikon D5000. As a complete beginner I'm a bit cluesless about stuff like polarizing etc. What does cross polarization mean and what do you mean when you say polarizing gels for the lighting. What sort of macro lens would i need? the guy in the photo shop...

    Photographing paintings.

Thank you for the replies so far, keep em coming. :) My friend is thinking of a Nikon D90, but wonders if its a bit excessive, also he has no idea what lighting or lighting arrangements would be best and what lens too. I've just spotted a D80 for £300 (used), would that be adequate? Scanner...
