I've not read the entire thread but I would look at getting some old Nikon SB-26's or SB-28's and fire them via a cheap radio trigger - I reckon you could get a nice set up for £200. However I would photograph you baby in natural light - PM me and I will explain more.

The Nikon 24-120 F4.0 VR lives on my d7000 - I also have the 50mm F1.4 and the 70-200mm F2.8 VRII - but the 24-120 is so good it hardly come off. Failing that look at the Tamron 18-270mm with VR cracking all round lens but slightly slow at 270mm I think f3.5 to F6.3

I made that mistake as I lushed after the 5DMKII with 21 Million pixels - however I couldn't get on with the focusing system. The Nikon d700 is only 12mill pixels but for me the focuscing system if far better, for me that means I get more keeper and IMO the d700 is...

I think you will may struggle the Finepix - As you would need to use some filters -circular polarizing to reduce the glass glare maybe combine with a natural density filter to bring the exposure down...something like that for me it would be a suck it see and adjust...

To keep it really simple I would look at the HDV-Z96 (Z-Flash) LED Video Light - Don't
You can pick these up for ebay - they come with a tungsten and daylight filter it can be fitted onto a light stand - make sure you set the white balance on you camera to match the light souce.
