    Bird of prey locations

Not that far from you is Gauntlet http://www.gauntlet.info/ Not far from junction 19 on the M6. They also do photography days where they fly and pose birds indoors and outdoors. The cafe is pretty good as well. well worth the trip.

400mm Canon / Canon fit lens advice

Sorry, I managed to post a reply before I finished typing and then lost the edited version. Anyway, When faced with the same dilemma, I found for wildlife photography length is everything. Lots of people use the 100-400 at the 400 end. The obvious choices are the zoom, the 400 prime or the...

400mm Canon / Canon fit lens advice

    Canon 60D

Like others, I wouldn't want a camera that doubles as a video camera. My limited experience of appliances that are supposed to do 2 things (such as fridge/freezers or washer/dryers or video cameras that take stills) is that they do neither of the functions as well as 2 appliances each of which...

    Lens for aircraft photography

What about the 400 f5.6L for Canon users. No one has mentioned this. If it is correct that the 100-400 is used mainly at the 400 end at airshows, the 400 5.6 would seem like a useful lens, albeit without the flexibility of the zoom but with the advantage that it is pin sharp. Is there a reason...

    Best zoom lens.....

If you can afford a 100-400 zoom you can afford the 400mm f5.6. The priime is slightly cheaper than the zoom, if you shop carefully.

Canon 75-300 f/4.0-5.6 IS USM lens. Any good? Bought a 55-250 IS. Thanks everyone!

I think oddjim is correct about the 75-300 IS USM being the first IS lens introduced by Canon. Photozone did a review of the 70-300 IS USM which replaced replaced the 75-300. The review was carried out in November 2005 when the 70-300 was "brand new". In that review Photozone comment that the...

    Camera Strap

Get an Optech one. I have one which fits via cords to the strap hangers on the camera. Very comfy. About £20 but I think you will find it amongst the best £20 you spend on kit.

Tempest school photography what background to they use?

I agree with Leeb. My daughter gets similar photos (although not by Tempest). The pupils are photographed in small groups and, in effect, the finished image is a panarama. I have no idea what kit is used but that is the technique. We are even allowed to buy the individual photos which make up...

Which lens for birds and animals?

I have recently started bird photography and use the 400mm 5.6L with a 30d. The lens is everything that has been said about it. The only negative with the 400mm is the least focussing distance (which I think is about 12 feet). I was recently at a bird photography day and a fellow tog was using...

    Printer problem

I have no knowledge of your particular printer but, my Canon printer has a "printer head" into which the ink cartridges fit. The "printer head" has in the past ceased to function probably and required replacement. The cost of this part is about £50 but I can use "pattern" ink cartridges rather...

Got myself a new lens :)

I have a 17-40L and it is a joy, if the focal length is what you need you won't regret it. I use mine for landscapes and at the long end where I used to use 50mm on a film camera. It is a lovely lens.

    Friendly reminder: Remember to backup!!!

The approach I use after having a disaster with an earlier PC (long story) is to have programs on one drive (these are easily re-installed from original media) and all data stored on a second internal drive. This way the probability of a virus or something similar wiping out precious data is...

    OpTech Straps

I have my 30d one hanging from an Optech strap. Don't worry about the quick release fasteners - they have been fine. If there was an issue with them I anticipate that the whole photographic world would know via the t'interweb. The issue of failure (as opposed to the fear of failure) isn't...

    Canon 30D - owners' opinions

I have one. Bought new a couple of years ago. My previous camera was an EOS 600 film camera. I tried a 350d before I bought the 30d. The 30d felt "right". If the 350d had felt "right" I would have bought that but it felt too small. If I recall, the innards of the 20d are the same as the 30d but...
