2013 was supposed to be its last year but the have done research and with funding can push a bit further. They are currently launching Operation 2015 to do a major maintenance job to make it last until then. After the 2015 season it WILL be grounded as flying hours etc on engine and airframe...
Got one on my D300s, they are very thin coated sheets of glass that you just stick on the rear and top LCDs. Definitely better than the Nikon plastic protector that is supplied with the camera. Get smeary like any other gloss finish - but seems ok and doesnt adversely alter the screen...
I hired a Nikon 70-200 VRII and whilst the lens was excellent I didn't like the fact the zoom ring was halfway down the barrel, it made it a little unsteady when zooming on a moving object as I didnt seem to be supporting the weight evenly (probably just me). Got the Sigma yesterday as its the...
Slightly off topic - but didn't realise until I unpacked the lens last night that Sigma have changed away from the matt slightly course lens finish to an all smooth glossy style! very pleased.
Oh and the tripod lens mount does seem much more sturdier than first thought.
Just need to get...
I hired a Nikon 70-200 2.8 and attached my BR strap to the tripod collar not the camera body, however as I was hand holding it all day i did remove the detachable tripod foot and mounted the strap straight into the lens collar.

I use it on a 150-500 without any thought or problem, but just got a 70-200 and the tripod mount on the lens is a different design in that is is hinged and the locking knob seems to be a quarter turn thread and then pull...
According to an article on "Sigma user" it is perfectly ok and is down to the "free floating design of the OS mechanism" and will occur when powered off or in standby mode.
Phew thats a relief - looking forward to trying it tonight.
Nope, seems very quiet when connected to camera (although i am in an office so may need to investigate more at home), still seems to suggest its the stabiliser unit in the lens as when it is actively being powered it stops.
Just put it on my camera and even without the OS switch being set to ON - it stops, when camera "goes to sleep" it starts again. Very strange but doesnt look like it'll affect its operation.
