Please talk me out of an Xpan

I have an Xpan which Ive owned for over 10yrs. Over that time, Ive picked up the 90mm as an addition to the 45mm, the half leather case, the leather shoulder bag, spirit level, and a few other bits an pieces. It is an incredibly good camera. I have never had a roll from it yet that I havent got...

    Shooting Expired Slide Film

Ive got a batch of Velvia 50 dated 2009. I would shoot this film at least 1 stop over (i.e at 25) and more likely 1.5 stops. In my experience, Velvia 50 does not age that well as far as speed goes.

    Slide film....Is it worth it?

Back in the day, slide film was considered far superior probably due to the relatively poor colour negative film. There were a few poor slide films, but the majority were excellent, and the standards are still very good. My favourite was Kodachrome, but there were some really good slide films...

Bulk Loader or Bulk Film problems

Thanks for that. The spindle is definitely to large for the roll. Dismantled, the spindle won't fit through the centre of the roll. The spindle is tapered slightly but this just causes the roll the lock tight, hence the broken film.

Bulk Loader or Bulk Film problems

I actually thought there was maybe a push out part, but there isn't. In fact, in the bag, I had to turn the loader upside down and force the spindle out of the film roll it was that tight.

Bulk Loader or Bulk Film problems

I'm shooting more B&W these days, so I bought a used Computrol Bulk Loader and a 30m roll of HP5. All went well, loaded up the roll into the bulk loader and attempted to load a 35mm cartridge. However, the roll of HP5 jammed on the spindle of the loader and the film snapped after rolling about...

The 90mm is another Leica like cracker of a lens. I can't give an example as I can't work out what ones I've used the 90mm on! Next time I shoot a roll, I'll note when Ive used the 90mm and post it on this thread. Well recommended though, just like the 45mm, a bit longer but metal construction...

Yes, I use mainly (almost always) the 45mm. Ive got the 90mm, but I'm not rich enough to own the 30mm!

Cheers for the comments. The Xpan is a brilliant format, every shot seems to have something. Same roll... XpanProvia317 by Iain.Gillespie, on Flickr

Not posted on the thread for some time, in fact I don't think Ive posted since Flickr changed its linking setup, so I thought I'd better give it a trial. This is from my Xpan, Kodak Ektar 100. Xpan Ektar 100 290510463 by Iain.Gillespie, on Flickr

    Oly trip Question

Steve, that's what happens when the aperture ring is set to A, but you can select a particular aperture when, say, using a flash.

    Oly trip Question

Turn the aperture ring to the f number, and do half pressure on the release and you should see it closing down

Cracked it with OOD Velvia 50

Ivan only comment on my experience with Velvia 50, but I found +.5 was still underexposed on mine, but +1 seemed to be just about right.
