    Macro lenses - advise needed

I had a Tamron but now have the 100 L IS. The Tamron is a good lens with excellent IQ, but as I tend to hand hold for macro shots of insects etc I found that my "hit rate" was not great. Nonetheless, with ISO of 400, AI Servo, Spot Focusing, at F 11.0, in good light I got some very nice images...

    Kood Filters

John, Thanks for the advice. I found the reviews and your suggestions very interesting and useful. I think I will take the Hoya option. Cheers, Hugh

    Kood Filters

Are Kood filters any good? They seem to be very cheap but are they good value - do they worK?! The Kood 72mm UV / Haze Filter is about half the price of a similar Hoya filter, but is it of lesser quality?

    60D lens question

The 15-85 is an excellent walkabout lens, with good reach and a nice wide angle. Another lens to think about is the 17-55, which is very sharp and with f2.8 is a great indoor lens. You need to think about how and where you will be using the lens. Do you need reach or better low-light...

    Macro flash and gear advice

I am really enjoying macro photography, but recognise I am only just scratching the surface. I have a Tamron 90mm at present but have decided to splash out and get the Canon 100mm f2.8 L IS. I have no flash whatsoever and recognise that this is the next step. All pics to date have been handheld...

    Upgrade - 50D or 60D?

Very pleased with my 60D - controls are very intuitive and easy to programme. Plenty of features and good image quality. Slower than a 7D, but I am very satisfied with my choice.

    What would you do?

Hi Barry, you're spot on - I need a wider angle lens and as you say, I will not be visiting the Alps on a regular basis! Cheers

    What would you do?

Thanks very much for all the suggestions. I think I will trade in the Sony kit, as I no longer use it. I will be taking the 60D etc with me, without the 100-400, but I am tempted by the S95 and also the G12. I would like a wide angle 10-20, but somethings will have to wait! Cheers

    What would you do?

Thanks for the advice so far. I suppose what I need to balance is whether I now need the Sony given that my main camera is now the Canon 60D and whether the compacts you suggest would be a more convenient transportable option?

    What would you do?

I shall be walking in the Alps in a few weeks time and on the longer walks I don't want to risk carrying my Canon set up (60D - 100-400L/18-75). I still have a Sony Alpha 100 with 18-200 kit lens, which is lighter and more compact. However, I am wondering whether to trade in my Sony and buy a...

Tamron 90mm - what extension tubes?

Thanks for the advice. I will now explore. Cheers, Hugh

Tamron 90mm - what extension tubes?

Hi, I have just bought a Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro. My initial photos are pleasing enough, but I would like to get those super close-ups of insects and bugs that make your skin crawl! What would you recommend with respect to extension tubes etc? What additional kit do I need? Any advice much...
