Exactly What has gone wrong here

Apart from the points already made, this looks terribly oversharpened. Is it an 8 bit lab scan by chance?

Gosh, that's gone to rack and ruin somewhat! It doesn't really go to or from anywhere useful now, I guess. There used to be a railway station down below on the right, it's just a car park underneath a raised road carriageway now. I recently spent the best part of a day comparing mid-20th century...

    Nikon Repair Recommendations

I've got a beautiful but dead FE2 and a couple of F3s that need servicing. I've used Newton Ellis in the past, but the business in 'in suspension' until March, and whilst their work is superb, they are rather dear. Does anyone have alternative suggestions?

What M42 body would you recommend?

Here's the article. Well worth a read. This owner too had a struggle, but he eventually won, and loves the camera. https://www.aperturepreview.com/pentax-es

I do so wish I could have a weekly Dartmoor photowalk. Annual will have to do.

What M42 body would you recommend?

I believe the ES and ESII were incrementally batter than the original Electro Spotmatic, with printed circuit boards. There is still delicacy there though. I found a post on the subject yesterday, I'll find it and put up the link later. As you say, when they are working the exposures are spot...

Ah, King's Lynn (I can see too from your subsequent and earlier posts, which I'd missed). I keep meaning to go there, I almost did so a couple of weeks ago, but something got in the way.

    That's nicely uncluttered.

What M42 body would you recommend?

If you can find a working Pentax ES/ESII, would that not do it, provided your lens has the SMC pin? The final iteration of the Spotmatic and SE with the M42 mount, TTL metering and electronic Aperture Priority, it was quite the thing in its time. The electronics might be an issue, and unless...

Probably old new. Newton Ellis to close

He serviced (beautifully) an FE2 for me recently. In a long telephone conversation I formed a firm impression that he will continue at a reduced level after Newton Ellis shuts its doors.

    'Lost' camera repairers

I've just received a serviced camera back from Newton Ellis. The owner indicated to me that he intends to continue to service cameras, though it won't be from the current address, and will be presumably on a reduced scale.

    First successful dark room print

I've got a colour M605, but I still couldn't really make it work with the filters in the head. I think it would drive you half mad.
