Thats a very cool photo. They might have done it from a telescope in space to create such a clear picture. Rekon the D800 works in 0 grav? :) Hope accidents in space would be covered with world wide insurance.

The Lee filters are great but as you said very expensive. Have you looked into Cokin P series filters. There is a massive amount of choice with lots of third partys selling filters to fit them. The Max thread size is 77mm with the Cokin P.

I suppose the idea with not having IS on this was that you can shoot at 2.8 if you need the extra low light capability. With the 24-105 your at f4.0 so IS is even more important. I suppose the Its not ideal to be shooting a 2.8 alot of the time but then neither is shooting at 1/25th with IS.

Came this morning, fantastic lens. Really impressed with everything about it, wasn't expecting it to be so good at macro shots. I just have to get the new 5D now :)

Sorry yeah I phrased that wrong. I have a 77mm filter thread and it works fine with the 77mm adapter. You must have just been unlucky.

I have 77mm lens adapter and it worked fine. Are you using the Cokin P series?

Finally decided I'm going to order it. Just the ISO performance and the duell card slots sold me. The ability not to worry about a card failing during a shoot is worth alot to me. I'm contemplating waiting 2-3 months to see if there's a price drop early on. What do you guys think the chances are?
