Hey there, I use a Manfrotto Tripod, 501 head with 525 legs, its adjustable, easy to set up and is really sturdy, not too heavy either! You could probably get a second hand one for atleast £50 maybe even less! :)

Yes make sure there is a nice variation of lighting, also you could place a lovely fluffy blanket over the sofa or something and lay the baby on there so it gives a nice back ground and theme! I did this with my baby cousin and the photo turned out beautifully! :)

Hi Pirespt, I have used a bag for my camera before when I went on holiday, it is only a splash proof bag but it does help a lot as it is always better to be safe than sorry! I would highly recommend that you hire one just to be on the safe side! :) The one I used was called Underwater Housing!
