I bought the f4 L IS because it's smaller and lighter than the 2.8, so I knew I'd be more likely to have it with me when I need it. However, for sports I'd have to agree with the posts above - the ability to use faster shutter speeds will be more useful than IS :)
I've used T-mobile and Vodafone; both have been fine, but obviously 3G coverage (and therefore speed) varies a lot depending on where you are. T-mobile was the faster of the two when I ran a speed test, but the Vodafone dongle was an old one, which could affect things.
My wife's just sent of hers to be changed into her new name - I'd be quite annoyed if they didn't renew it for £80! They ask you to send an up to date photo, so I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be.
