Shopping, shop brand or big name?

Used to use Gillette but I found objectionable the thought of my money subsidising the lifestyle of whichever already overpaid footballer they currently employ to advertise their product. Grudgingly I’ll admit they make the best blades but a recent long stay in hospital made me realise I can...

Any "Gardeners" on the forum ? Novice requires HELP please

Soil analysis may prevent people from buying things that are completely inappropriate such as rhododendrons and camellias when they are planting into alkaline soils. It’s why nearly every gardening book suggests that you get to know your soil before buying plants. there is an app called My Soil...

    Furniture

My two penneth.... I'm antique restorer and French polisher. It's what I do. I almost bore myself telling people this, but old antique furniture, quality wise, stands head and shoulders above most high street stuff you can buy today. Both the construction methods and materials are generally...

    Cordless Impact wrenches?

For for a couple of hundred quid I think I’d get myself a small compressor and air wrench instead. I think a cordless wrench will struggle when it comes to removing seized on wheel nuts. With a compressor at least you’ll also have extra functionality: air blower, tyre inflator, spraying etc...

DSLR,s seem to be holding their value...

I went through the very same decision process you‘ve just gone through. I too had a D3300 and opted to get a D7500. For what I was likely to get for my old 3300 if I’d have sold it, I instead decided to keep it for a knockabout/holiday/leave in the car camera. It’s smaller and lighter than the...

    Lockdown beers......dry-January? no thanks.

Used to love a drop of IPA. During first lockdown though I felt my consumption going up a little to regular so decided to cut back hard while we are living in such depressing times. Only five pints consumed since April last year. As soon as we reach more agreeable and less depressing...

Thoughts on Pursuing a Career in Photography

Absolutely agree with this statement. I've never much seen the point in business planning either . Far better to make yourself adaptable to changing circumstances with an end goal in mind, rather than committing to a preconceived path of action. Can't remember who first coined the phrase but...

How safe would you feel out alone with your camera equipment ?

Theodore Roosevelt: Speak softly and carry a big tripod (with a big, cheap, heavy and lumpy steel ball head) ;)

Anyone else fallen out of love with Flickr?

I rather like Flickr and see it as a place for publishing photos that photographers would like shown for the merit of the imagery alone. I don’t use Instagram but largely I see that more as platform for publishing photos that have a back story such as “Hey, look at me and how great my wonderful...

    'Stealing a living', apparently.

I’d have laughed at him. Does this knob somehow have some sort of divine right to be protected from the usual competition and market forces that affect all other businesses?

    Paralysis by analysis D3300 upgrade

yes, should have added that information. Sort of stuff I like shooting is landscape, found still life, architectural details, urbex. More often than not I use a tripod. Don’t do too much wildlife but occasionally like some macro/close up on flowers. Never do sport or portraiture.

    Paralysis by analysis D3300 upgrade

So I seem to be over thinking things regarding which way forward t upgrade from my Nikon D3300. When I first bought the D3300 I followed the conventional wisdom of “Save if for the glass...” and as a consequence I find myself quite heavily invested in Nikon DX lenses. These are as follows...
