    Drone near miss at Heathrow

My hope (as someone who flies a quadcopter recreationally) is that they continue to prosecute and hand out large fines to those caught breaking the rules and regs. A clear message needs to be sent out to those who fly them in inappropriate places, as they as the few that tar us all, and as a...

    Drone near miss at Heathrow

More than £1k if they went for a decent aircraft and camera. As the others have said, more fool them, the rules haven't changed and are unlikely to change regarding Permits for Aerial Work (certainly not making it harder to obtain). If they want to use it for commercial purposes, then they...

    Calibration of Macbook Screen

I calibrated my rMBP screen when I got it with a ColourMunki. It made a bit of a difference, mainly in just correcting the brightness (which was set way too high)

    Macbook Air or Pro?

The Air is very limited in terms of power and storage options, and the 11" really is a tiny screen. A MBP is a much better device in my honest opinion, but as with most Apple products, they do hold their value reasonably well. You may just get a MBP for £500, but it's going to be quite a low...

New DJI Osmo, handheld camera with gimbal

I agree. With the X5/X5R it may be worth it, but a Feiyu G4/G4S and a Hero 4 Black are a very strong combination. I do like the screw mount on the OSMO so that it can be mounted to other objects, although I probably would be weary of trusting it with an X5

New DJI Osmo, handheld camera with gimbal

True, but it is still compatible as far as I know (although depends on the application you want it for as to whether it's worth it). They have said the one that ships with the OSMO can't be mounted to an Inspire 1, although I suspect it's just a software issue.

New DJI Osmo, handheld camera with gimbal

I've got the Feiyu G4 & Hero 4 Black combo and it works well, mostly. If I was buying again, I'd go for the G4S from Feiyu, as it's been slightly redesigned to allow full rotation on each axis, whereas at the moment, the camera can knock into the gimbal at certain orientations. I think the OSMO...

London More London - Public liability insurance

I've photographed City Hall (late afternoon & evening long exposures) from the Scoop on at least 5 seperate occasions. I've never realised MoreLondon want you to have a permit, and I've never had one. Never had any hassle or second glances from any security, despite being stood there with a...

    HD Drones etc

It seems to vary by gimbal. Some seem to be just wide enough to not depress the button. Mine wasn't, so I used a dremel to remove the warranty (and the bit of metal pressing the button), and balanced it with a self adhesive tyre weight (perfect size). I've already got a H3-3D from when I had the...

    HD Drones etc

I'd be interested to see the results of this from the air. It might work: http://ragecams.com/shop/16mm-lens-gopro-hero3-black-fits-waterproof-case-p-543.html?osCsid=2a0b0ff02aa61f0242a9710a469e95ef

    HD Drones etc

Yep. To do it commercially you are looking at £2k+ (£1,600 for the BNUC-S/RPQ-S + insurance), plus a reliable rig like an S900 and a GH4. You can do it commercially with a Phantom 2 and GoPro, but the IQ isn't there for a lot of the higher end work. You can fit a slightly longer lens to the...

    HD Drones etc

Sorry @Peter69, I failed to answer the second part of your post. The ring fencing is done via GPS and is set by the manufacturer around a specific lat long position, and radius (with a variety of height restrictions the further out you get). Not all manufacturers use it, and there is no defined...

    HD Drones etc

Apologies, I've only just seen these posts. @Peter69 - correct, if the data isn't being recorded, ie the camera is on but not recording, then slightly different rules apply regarding distances to objects etc. FPV does not mean you are in visual line of sight of the device. This has to be your...
